Our Project for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Atlanta

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta’s mission is to transform the lives of children through professionally-supported, one-to-one mentoring relationships with caring, well-trained volunteers. Looking to help their “Bigs” to feel more confident, comfortable, and effective in communicating with the kids (ages 6-12) they are mentoring, the non-profit hired Topics Education to create an effective curriculum to accomplish this goal.

In our opinion, one of the most effective ways to learn about something is to teach others, and one of the most effective methods for learning to teach is to listen to others’ experiences and to apply those lessons to your own methods of instruction. We interviewed current volunteer mentors to get their unique perspective on what it means to be a “Big” and to capture the advice they would give to an aspiring mentor. The final product was a success – a video collection of seasoned mentors sharing their thoughts on the challenges, rewards, and overall experiences of being a mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta.
